What is the "Dark Web"? Everything You Should Know.

What is the "Dark Web"? Everything You Should Know.

So, probably you have already heard something interesting about "The Dark Web" & of course you want to know the details as well.
Then how can we easily explain the spooky part of the Internet? Let's see...

What is the "Dark Web"
What is the "Dark Web"

What is The Dark Web?

The most common thing people say about the dark web is that it is the larger part of the internet that isn't indexed by search engines. Well, it is kind of the answer, But let's be more specific. "The dark web is the World Wide Web content that exists on darknet and the overlay networks that use the Internet but require some specific software, configurations to access."
Yes, there you go. You knew that right? But the most confusing part is that the "Dark Web" is not really as same as the "Deep Web". You can say the Dark web is actually a part of the Deep Web, means it is a lot Deeper than the Deep web itself.
The huge pile of information is hidden in websites that standard search engines are unable to find or index. The deep web holds more than 96% of the Internet’s information and most users are not even aware of it.
So, you know the deeper and deeper definitions of the internet now, not yet? Ahh! forget about it and stick to the common definition then. ☺️☺️

What is the Purpose of the Dark Web?

Everything that is forbidden has a forbidden purpose as well. The Dark Web is mainly used by the drug sellers (and buyers), hackers, gun sellers and other illegal kinds of stuff like these. But not everything is illegal, the dark web also has a legitimate side for research, data, playing games or the anonymous social media as well. But nonetheless, it is pretty much sure that the dark web mostly contains the illegal stuff. So you decide whether it is illegal or not :).

How do the Dark Websites work?

Dark websites look pretty much like any other site, but there are important differences. One is the naming structure. Instead of ending in .com or .co, dark websites end in .onion (Sometimes they are called the Onion sites). That’s “a special-use top level domain suffix designating an anonymous hidden service reachable via the Tor network,” according to Wikipedia. Browsers with the appropriate proxy can reach these sites, but others can’t. Dark websites also use a scrambled naming structure that creates URLs that are often impossible to remember. For example, a popular commerce site called Dream Market goes by the unintelligible address of “eajwlvm3z2lcca76.onion.” So, now you know how the accessibility works here.
So, why are the Dark websites not indexed?
As I mentioned before, Dark websites look pretty much like any other site, but there are important differences. Along with the naming differences, the dark websites also have some specific structural variations.
  • Dynamic Pages returned as a response to a query or accessed only through contact or any other type of form.
  • Unlinked Content or pages that are in no way linked to other internet content. This method prevents search engine crawlers from analyzing pages.
  • Scripted Content only accessible using JavaScript links and dynamically downloaded content.
  • Non-HTML/text content encoded in images and videos.
  • Software content accessible only using a specially crafted software like Tor (Yeah, you heard that before) and l2P.
  • Private Web or resources that require user ID and passwords in order to use.

How to access the Dark Web and where to find the Addresses?

I don't want to cover everything on this single article. You may already know that you need a special web browser (Yes, it is TOR).
However, you must take some preparations before you take a step towards the dark web. Check out our another article where you will find step by step guide on how you can get access to the hidden portion of the internet and where to find all the web addresses as well.

My Opinion...

One thing to keep in mind, this article is only written for an educational purpose. We do not encourage anyone to surf the dark web. Please follow the precautions before visiting the dark web.
You will also find "How to surf the dark web safely" on our website.
